Election Ends, Canvassing starts Tuesday

Marking the beginning of preparations for local and national canvassing of votes is the closing of nationwide polling in thousand precincts at around 7 PM, Monday. However, National Board of Canvassers (NBOC) suspended all proceeding on Tuesday at 10 AM.

"We don't expect to be receiving much of the results within the next few hours so we decided to suspend until 10 AM," COMELEC Chairman Sixto Brillantes Jr. said.

"By then we would have received bulk of the electronic transmissions," Brillantes added.

According to Brillantes, they have to zero first the canvassing system before starting to accept transmission of any electoral result. It was earlier announced that poll chief expects winner for national positions after 48 hours - Wednesday, as the polls closed.
